Peter Canavan
Peter Canavan is considered one of Gaelic football’s all-time greats. He has now been part of the Tyrone senior squad for seventeen seasons. When he captained Tyrone to the All-Ireland title in 2003, he had won everything there was to be won at inter-county level.

Peter Canavan is married to Finola and has four children., Aine is aged 11, Claire is 6, Darragh is 4 and Ruairi is 8 months old.

He was educated at St Ciaran’s, Ballygawley, and St Mary’s College, Belfast. Peter is currently a schoolteacher at Holy Trinity College in Cookstown . He has also managed different teams from his school to Ulster and All-Ireland football success.

As a player, Peter has collected five All-Star awards during an illustrious senior football career which began in October 1989 in the national league when he was still an under-18 player. He captained Tyrone to successive All-Ireland under-21 titles in 1991 and 1992 before captaining the seniors to Ulster Championship wins in 1996 and 2001. He has more recently captained Tyrone to successive national league titles in 2002 and 2003, having also starred a decade earlier in the 1992 league . But leading his beloved county to All-Ireland senior glory in September 2003 was the pinnacle of this remarkable man’s career.

In his early days he won an Ulster minor and two All-Ireland vocational schools titles. He has four Ulster senior championship medals.

Peter has won numerous honours in the colours of his school, club, county, province and country and has been a prolific marksman for every team in which he has played, breaking many records and topping many scoring charts along the way. He is one of the game’s all-time greats.
