Peter King
Congressman Peter T. King, a Republican, is serving his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representative.

First elected to represent New York’s Third District in 1992, Rep. King has received a greater number of votes than any Congressional candidate on Long Island in each of his six races. In 2002, he won with 73% of the vote.

Congressman King is a senior member of the International Relations Committee and the Financial Services Committee. He was appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve on the Select Committee on Homeland Security, which was formed in response to the terrible attacks of September 11, 2001.

During his years in Congress, Rep. King has earned a reputation for independence and integrity. He has been a strong ally to President Bush in the struggle against international terrorism and the effort to rebuild New York.

Among his successful initiatives Rep. King secured the votes to pass the first-ever Federal study of the high rate of breast cancer on Long Island; won approval of a comrehensive plan to rebuild the storm-damaged beaches of Long Island’s south shore; and leads the effort to construct the LIRR East Side Access Tunnel. Calling Rep. King a “profile in courage”, the Long Island newspaper, Newsday, has said “King’s outspoken integrity sets him apart ... He says and means what he says - a rare trait in Washington.

Prior to serving in Congress, Pete King was elected to three terms (1981, 1985 and 1989) as the Comptroller of Nassau County. As the county’s chief fiscal watchdog, King initiated official audits and investigations which resulted in millions of dollars in savings to local taxpayers. As a result of his efforts, King was cited by Newsday for demonstrating “uncommon independence”. Prior to serving in county government he had extensive experience as a practicing attorney and civic leader. He began his political carrer in November 1977 by winning election to the Hempstead Town Council.

Rep. King is a life-long resident of New York who worked his way through St. Francis College and Notre Dame Law School. His late father was a Lieutenant in the NYPD who trained Bo Dictl in the Police Academy. Congressman King and his wife Rosemary, reside in Seaford and have two adult children, Sean and Erin. His is the author of three published novels including Vale of Tears which describes the terrorist threat to New York.
